OPTEL Canada
Privacy Policy
Last updated September 5, 2026
UCC Optel Inc. controls the prospect and address-interest information submitted through optel.ca. In Richmond, relevant information may be shared with Air Tech Communications Inc. to qualify an address, plan service, complete a requested order or support the OPTEL offer.
1. Accountability
UCC Optel Inc. is responsible for personal information under its control and designates a privacy contact to receive questions, access requests, corrections and withdrawals.
2. Information we collect
- the service address and optional postal code you check or submit;
- an optional building, property or residence name and unit number, which help us identify concentrated demand at multi-unit and campus properties;
- your name, email address and optional mobile number;
- optional information about your current provider, connection type, speeds, monthly price, equipment charge, contract end and the price at which you would seriously consider switching;
- optional Facebook, Instagram, X or TikTok contact information;
- the communication permissions you select and records of consent or withdrawal;
- messages and other information you provide to us or an authorized local provider;
- the language in which you submit a form; and
- limited technical and security information normally recorded by a web server, such as IP address, request time, browser information and requested page.
3. Why we use it
We use personal information to check and qualify service addresses, measure community demand, understand current service and price conditions, identify geographic service clusters, evaluate or plan possible network and resale arrangements, respond to requests, provide requested availability, pricing and installation updates, refer or administer an OPTEL offer with an authorized local provider, maintain consent records, protect the website and comply with legal obligations.
4. Your communication choices
Email, SMS and each social platform are treated as separate choices. We use only the channels you authorize for availability, timing, pricing and OPTEL offer communications. Providing one channel does not authorize another. You may withdraw a permission at any time. Standard carrier message and data rates may apply to SMS.
5. When we disclose information
We disclose only information reasonably required for the stated purposes. This may include disclosure to Air Tech Communications Inc. for Richmond address qualification, network planning, order fulfilment and support; to hosting, security or communications suppliers working for us; or where disclosure is authorized or required by law. We may use or share aggregated or de-identified market statistics that do not identify you when evaluating a possible network arrangement. Identifiable market-evaluation information will not be provided to a prospective network operator for its independent marketing. Air Tech may not add a Richmond prospect to unrelated general Air Tech marketing without separate lawful consent.
6. Service providers and location
Our suppliers may process information in another province or country, where it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction. We remain responsible for personal information transferred to a supplier for processing and use contractual or other appropriate safeguards.
7. Retention
We retain address-interest information only while it is reasonably needed for qualification, active community planning, requested communications or an OPTEL offer. We review inactive prospect information and delete or anonymize it when it is no longer required. Consent, withdrawal, security and transaction records may be retained longer where reasonably necessary to demonstrate compliance, resolve a dispute or meet a legal obligation.
8. Safeguards
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including restricted access and protections against direct web access to prospect records. No Internet transmission or storage system is completely secure.
9. Cookies and analytics
The current OPTEL address-checking site does not use advertising cookies or third-party behavioural analytics. A strictly necessary cookie may remember your language choice. The server may also use strictly necessary technical functions and maintain security and request logs. If optional analytics or advertising tools are introduced, this policy and any required consent mechanism will be updated first.
10. Access, correction and withdrawal
You may ask whether we hold personal information about you, request access or correction, or withdraw a communication permission, subject to lawful exceptions. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
11. Questions or complaints
Contact the Optel privacy officer at privacy@optel.ca. If a concern is not resolved, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
12. Changes
We may update this policy as the OPTEL program develops. The current version and its effective date will remain posted here. We will seek new consent before using personal information for a materially new purpose where required by law.
